Longer absence than I thought!! No, I haven't been away on holidays, I have been living the life of a teacher for the past week. My placement is in a Rudolf Steiner school and I am with Class 2 and the most wonderful teacher! I have been there a week and learnt so much which is fabulous. Before the placements were allocated, an e.mail from the Uni coordinator went out saying they had a few "alternative" placements and if people were interested. Interested??? I was in her office the next day - nearly begging to go!!! I must have convinced her enough that I genuinely wanted to go.
The idea of these placements is to get actual teaching experience, however for me it is more about learning from the teachers. To date I have had wonderful teachers and have been able to learn some worthwhile strategies that I know will work for me as a teacher.
So next week I will get to have some teaching experiences. I will be telling the daily story a few times. This means I have to learn the story and tell it to the children - no books used!

Enjoy it. These days when you are actually allowed to focus and reflect on your teaching without other concerns are so few. Have a ball with them!
Why no book? Is that a Steiner thing? I always used to tell me kids made up stories or freely adapted fairytales, and they loved it. Stories from your mouth they call it.
Sounds great! I would have loved to send my kids to a Steiner school, but there aren't any around here - more's the pity.
Enjoy your experiences and I know you will put them to good use.
