Neglect?

Could I too be considered a neglectful mother?

Driving my three kids plus another two home from hockey training last night and the topic of what was for dinner came up. The other little girl was looking forward to Potato Bake and Lamb Chops. My Zoe asked "What are Lamb Chops?" which brought loud laughs from my two new passengers. Then Shay piped up "I don't know what Lamb Chops are either. What is so funny?"

So I explained to all in the car that I had never cooked them Lamb Chops! Sure they had eaten Roast Lamb and the occasional Lamb Fillet in other things and even Lamb Mince. No I am not a snob but the cook in this house just doesn't like Lamb Chops - she ate more than her fair share as a kid!!

Plus how expensive are they now? And they just don't go with the sorts of things that I like to cook. However maybe soon I will cook them. The kids thought it was more funny than embarrassing so that is OK.

What would Sam Kekovich say??

Definitely neglect :) We don't buy chops either - way too much fat and bone for the price!

I was thinking the same thing the other day - that I hadn't made chops with potatoes and peas for ages, when it was a regular weekly or even twice weekly meal when I was growing up!

So next time at the supermarket I went to pick up some chops (and we have a family of five, like you) and was staggered at the price!

Back to the mince it was ...

We're in the same boat here, and for the same reasons (except that I'm not much of a red meat fan anyway). I would say it's been nearly 20 years since I ate a lamb chop. It's just a food that I don't even consider eating.

Hey! Thanks for coming by my blog! It's nice to see another Canberra Crafty person out there!

I hear you on the chops - I hate them. Too much fat and bone for me. Much better value getting a pork butterfly steak!

I must be odd- I actually quite like them! But then again, I probably only have them twice a year and only have to feed one body. I'll keep you posted on how good they are!

no chops here - same reasons as you.

And it was almost part of my wedding vows that I would serve no form of 'chop' to the husband ... who had his fair share growing up also...

Look, Shelly, if you cook the lamb chops for the kids, I'll do the mashed potatoes and whatever else you want.

On second thoughts, forget it. I'LL cook 'em chops - just have something on standby at home in case they don't like them.

I think lamb loin chops are still your father's favourite food.
